Can't stop nighttime lows!

Hi all,

Wondered if someone could help with an issue i'm having.

I recently switched from using Lantus to Levemir, because i was consistently waking up in the middle of the night in a pool of sweat from having a hypo. Switching to Levemir hasn't seemed to have had the desired effect as i am still having the same problem. A consequence of this night time hypo is that i consistently wake up with a very high reading in the morning, which isn't a great way to start the day!

Just a bit of background on this, most evenings i do high intensity exercise, and despite eating a fair amount of food before going to bed, i can't seem to stop this almost nightly hypo!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tom

Hi @tquick89, what bolus and carbs are you taking throughout the day and evening when this happens. With limited info, it suggests you are taking too much bolus, or not enough carbs to counteract the exercise. But initially, have you done any basal testing without any exercise to give yourself the foundations to build on?

So i'm currently using Novorapid with my meals. The last dose of novorapid i give myself is typically at 8pm with my dinner, after which i go and exercise. Prior to going to sleep around 11pm/12am i will have a bowl of cereal, along with other small snacks to keep me going through out the night. With this last meal i don't give myself any novorapid, but give myself the full dose of Levemir.

I haven't done any basal testing no.

Thanks for your help

Tom

might be worth looking at splitting your levemir dose between evening and morning jabs so you can reduce overnight and still keep basal going through the day.
