Hello,

I just have a quick question

I have diabetes and have informed the dvla of this and everything. When I got my provisional I think it said the license was on a 1 year restriction and that it needed renewing each year and I needed an eye test each year... or something along those lines as it was a long time ago when I read it.

I've been looking at getting insurance for my car for when I pass my test (hopefully on thurs 17th!) using the price comparison sites on the internet. One of the questions is asking for restrictions on the license, and I was putting a 1 year restriction. Tried chaning it to just 'Full UK' once and my insurance quotes were between £300 to £400 lower! did some research and I found multiple people saying insurance companies shouldn't charge extra if your diabetic. So im not sure if I should say 1 year restricted or full UK and mention to them im diabetic.

Which one is the correct way?

Thanks

as far as im aware all insulin dependant diabetics have their full uk licences restricted to 3 years.
insurance companies cannot by law discriminate against diabetics but they will adjust your premium if you have an accident which is directly attributed to your diabetic control.

So on the online forms i have to put restricted? but then it meants an extra 300-400... which is where im confused

all of the insurance companies ive dealt with have considered my licence to be full uk
with no restrictions even though it needs renewing every 3 years.
it may be best for you to talk to your insurer over the phone to avoid confusion.
i arranged my policy with Direct Line over the phone and still managed to haggle the
10% discount they were offering for doing it online.

drive safe and remember - you can't steer while you're airbourne

I was diagnosed Last November (2007) as type 1 - I was told that i had to inform my insurance company - Hastings Direct - so I phoned them up and they just asked 'have you been told not to drive' - i said no - and they said OK no problem - and thanks for letting them know !

Great I thought !
