Type 1 Car rental for diabetics

Type of diabetes
Type 1
I am trying to hire a car but the car rental companies seem to require the licence issue date to be more than two years ago. Due to the DVLA providing type 1 diabetics with 3 year licences, I had mine renewed Oct last year so the issue date is only about 4 months and I cannot rent a car online. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks
Kevin

There should be absolutely no reason why you cannot rent a car @KevAlM01. The issue you're having is more than likely due the format in which the rental company requires you to enter your details on their website.

If you give them a phone, I'm sure it'll be no problem at all:)

Thanks very much GrantGam - it's for a holiday in Spain and on the phone there was a bit of a language barrier so online seemed easier until as you say the website doesn't cater for these circumstances, I'll call again.

Do distinguish between the date of issue of your current driving licence (ie within the last 3 years for many diabetics) and the date when you first got a driving licence (some time after your 17th birthday). My own current licence has a start date in 2011, which is the 10 year anniversary of when I first applied for a European photo-card licence, which lasts for 10 yrs, for the purpose of hiring abroad, but I have had a licence since the late 1970's and it is this date which counts.
