Hi everyone,
I’m Steve I’m 51 and was diagnosed T2 about 7 years ago. Back then I was a little over 12 stone and now I’m 13st 9lbs with a bmi of 27.4 so I’m not doing too bad.
Initially I was prescribed 1000mg Metformin and then 80mg Gliclazide then followed by Rosiglitazone and all was well for a while. . . .
Then the Rosiglitazone were withdrawn and things just went a bit wrong.
To try and drag my sugar down my medication was increased to 2000mg Metformin 320mg Gliclazide and two different types of insulin, I was doing 25 in the morning and 25 at night using 6mm and 8mm needles but when I stopped taking my insulin for a fortnight my weekly average didn’t hardly alter so that has now been replaced by 100mg Sitagliptin.
I test twice a day, fasting first thing in the morning and before my evening meal, my 7 day average is normally between 9 and 10.5
I’m pretty active and I have a physical job. My diet is not bad to be honest, I don’t have any cholesterol problems for example.
It would appear that carbs are my downfall and it would be very difficult with me to go very low carb because of my working routine involving long days often away from home with no access to fridges, kitchens etc.
Finally, the point!
Has anyone tried white bean extract carb blockers? Not for the claimed weight loss (although that wouldn’t be amiss) but do they make any difference to the measured glucose?
Sorry to go on but I don’t know what to try next, I know my diet is lower in sugar now than ever, I do fail every now and again and demolish a dozen malted milks and i do love bananas 8) but I also see that my weekly chippie tea makes a much bigger impact on my reading the next morning than any sticky cake.
If you’ve got this far then thanks for your patience
Any ideas, advice or criticism will be gratefully received
Steve.
