Carb Confusion

ive joined a few Facebook pages looking for low carb food ideas. It has now caused me confusion where I had thought I understood it.

IN THE UK
I understand our labelling. Ie that fibre is counted totally separate. The figures listed on our carb label are the ones I’ve been counting.

IN THE US
Their labels include fibre within carbs. I thought using a us label you then deducted any fibre listed from carbs and got net carbs and counted them. (Thus being the equivalent of our single worded carbs count). A diabetes page just told me they only deduct half the fibre as some of it may be soluble and cause glucose rises. Which is right please? Because many resources are us based I need to understand the counts they are handing out.

And on that note I’ve just switched to carb manager. App. Should I, as a uk based person, be counting total or net carbs with this app? I don’t want to be counting fibre when I shouldn’t nor do I want to double count it.. are their food listing counts us or uk?

And lastly I’m using a New Zealand site a lot and am I right thinking this down under do the same as the U.K.?

TIA

Now this got me reading. https://mindfulketo.com/food-label-keto/

The way you do. And I learned something new (and disturbing)?

Cephalic Phase Insulin Response. Who knew?

Apparently quite a few folk and not me.

I had started using a sugar free coffee flavouring syrup - sucralose .... OK so I'm think this could be a good reason my BG has been oddly less controlled of late.

Back in the cupboard for that one :-(

RE: net carbs - If you're trying to be ketogenic & are metabolically damaged it is suggested you count total carbs as opposed to net & see how it impacts you. Some people can stay in ketosis with higher carbs than others. I've also heard it said that you can deduct all of the fibre carbs in fresh, whole foods such as vegetables but that you're better off only deducting half the fibre carbs in packaged foods such as bread, atkins bars & the like. Basically you just have to do what works for you!

Thanks. Im in ketosis at about 40g and that’s not counting all fibre (do t really eat anything like the listed packaged items anyway) so I think I’m happy doing what I’m doing.

However is there any help with the carb manager app anyone ?
