Type 1 Carb counting

Had pasta for dinner last night carb counted and was 100g so did a multi wave on my pump of 7 units instantly then the rest over 4 hours. I tested blood after 2 hours and was in range 7.2 but still had 2 units left to have so cancelled the rest of the bolus. Before bed I was 5.8 so thought I had worked things out well. However when I woke up this morning I was 15.2. should I have not cancelled the rest of the bolus but I thought if I never I would have gone hypo. I know I had pasta but can never work things like that out right.

Pasta is a so-and-so. I think a lot of us find it we think we've got the ratio right for it, then when we're not looking the blood goes skyward. Pasta shouldn't be slow - it's not fatty in itself, but if the sauce is fatty and the cheese is ladled on then that is enough fat to really slow it down......

These days I save pasta for special occasions - too many variables to bolus for and be sure I'll get it right, sadly.

But I do know some T1's have got it cracked - bears of bigger brain than me, I fear.

I think I read somewhere and my nurse told me to try and ear whole grain pasta as these contain complex carbs where white pasta is a simple carb.
Whole grain pasta will break the carbs down slower over a period of time where white pasta will act more quickly so you're more likely to have a spike and a dip over time.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I'd also like to know if I'm doing it wrong :/

I eat wholegrain pasta when I do have it. One of the T1's has hers cooked, let go cold and re-warmed because you apparently take up less of the carb that way. I've never tried it.

Also, wholegrain is loads more filling. I can't eat much of it at a go if I want to eat my veggies as well.

I find it scary seeing insulin on board and more to come from my combo bolus (different pump different name for multi-wave) but the point of using this function is to avoid the roller coaster some food like pasta give us over longer periods. If you had correctly bolused, your BG would be in range after 2 hours, 3 hours, and beyond.
You have to have the faith!
Perhaps it is easier to try it out on a pasta meal at lunchtime so you are awake if you get it wrong.
