Carb eating - BBC News

Remember that insulin levels in response to a given amount of carbs depend on the time of day, and how much glycogen we have stored.

"For many years, low-carb diets have been in fashion - based on the belief that eating lots of carbohydrates, particularly in the form of sugary treats such as white bread, rice or pasta, is bad for your waist and for your blood-sugar control."

Fashion?

Only white bread?

Bad for your waist? Not if you burn off the calories with exercise.

I guess I shouldn't be so sensitive. I must recognise that the media cannot explain things properly.

Whinge over.

It does this by storing the excess sugar from the carbs as fat.

So not just excess calories?

Yes, it is normal to produce insulin, and of course we are not better off without it. It is necessary for life either natural or injected. However, what is not desirable is over-production of insulin. High circulating insulin levels are as bad for health as high circulating glucose, possibly worse.
I agree. A lot of prediabetics suffer from such circulating insulin with complications. Which is far different from type2s severely highly insulin resistance. Touch wood I had no complications from my severe insulin resistance except high bgs but no neurology problems like many prediabetics. Remember I've had symptoms for 40+yrs. Although I do have obesity which is proven to be a complication rather than a cause.
So I take back.....I do had a complication. :( Obesity.
I also agree about circulating insulin causes more health problems (dementia, pcos, bell's palsy, obesity and many others) other than just circulating glucose(diabetes).

To perfect both it very very hard work if your body wants to naturally work against that. One problem to solve way easier than having to solve all. For sure.

I agree the beauty of less carbs it reduces both problems or reduces both problems. A no brainer to reduce.

Mild diabetes is far easier to reverse than long term severe diabetes. Proven.

I tried severe low carbing but made me ill. Heart disease at threat due to severe palpatations, dizziness and chest pains.
Very scary.
Finding the right levels will always be the winner. :)

I watched the TV program last night, it was half a loaf of white bread they were given to eat!

I don't recall them saying, but the had a stot of the pile of bread.
Hi, I may well be wrong but I think the various piles of white bread were just meant to illustrate the high, medium and low carb meals that they were given at different meal times.

A prop, then?

Not even any water even in the middle ages you would get bread and water. Harsh and cruel punishment I call it.

@ckihun I see you mention PCOS would LCHF be suitable for some one with this condition as it does seem to be closely linked to diabetes and is a condition involving high levels of circulating insulin.
