Carbs and weight loss

May be a stupid question. I do limit my carbs and don't eat pasta, potatoes or rice. I do however eat porridge with blueberries, almonds, cinnamon and flax seeds with almond milk and and a couple of slices of my homemade bread each day. Bread is made from stoneground flour and seeds, no added sugar. I am continuing to lose weight steadily, about a pound a week, with a total loss of 2stone this year by eating this way. I have no idea what my currant Hba1c is but if I am losing weight is it likely the carbs are not having a negative effect on me? Just wondered. I think I would struggle to cut carbs completely. I keep reading that oats are good for blood sugar control.

In my experience, oats are one of the worst things for BG control and it seems to be a common reaction for most type 2's. Wheat is also a no-no for me.

The only way to really know though is to check your BG with a glucometer before eating then again 1 or 2 hours afterwards.

Yes I was stressing too much. I am going stop monitoring until I get back from my holiday, I will start again in September and try not to go too over the top. The first things will be to see the effect of oats and bread. I was just thinking that as I was losing weight ( intentional) the BG was not causing fat storage. A good sign? I thought it was a silly question but I am still trying to get to grips with everything.

Testing on holiday can be awkward and not good for the holiday mood, but if it were me I'd cut out the dubious food like bread and oats until you've tested without them after the holiday, and if all's well you can try them again in small amounts to see what happens.
Also, have a great holiday but do try to keep low-carb.
I put on weight with carb creep -- it's the only warning I get without testing.

Sorry to see I am quite slim, always had a normal bmi but now mine is 19 and I still can't eat oats, I can tolerate a teeny bit of bread occasionally, but that is 6 years down the line, for the first few years I found I could only eat very low carb to keep normal blood sugar levels. So for me oats and bread would be a no no until I had tested their effects on my blood sugar.

might be being a paranoid has got to do with your blood sugar being stable?
