Quote from page 11 of the book.

"The minimum carbohydrate intake to ensure proper functioning of the brain and the central nervous system is 130g per day."

Is this the reason I can't understand some member's posts and why some members start gibberish threads? :(;):arghh::rolleyes::)

Hi - could be:). You may (or may not) need 130gm of glucose in the body to keep things functioning but that can come via the liver from the metabolism of fats and proteins and doesn't imply you need to eat 130gm of carbs/day.

I don't think carbs & cals is an "NHS book" - it's published by Chello publishing, commercially. Although some of the tag lines suggest it's supported by/in association with Diabetes UK and the author is a senior diabetes dietician in the NHS.

As the others have said, the AVAILABILITY of glucose is 130g/day which can be from carbs or by converting of fats & protein etc.

The problem with the statement is that someone who isn't knowledgeable about diabetes might assume you have to consume that much carbohydrate and it isn't produced by the body. My guess is the authors are recommending that amount??? Note the word INTAKE in the statement.

I havent eaten that many carbs in 6 weeks. I know there are posters on here who havent eaten that many for several years. Perhaps we are all experiencing mass delusion?

You are correct. I looked again and it doesn't state NHS.
