Hi, been t2 couple of months now, metformin 1000mg, have been really watching my carbs, cut out all sugar, eating more veg, etc, but don't seem to be loosing any weight, and readings are still 1st thing in the morning, 6.3ish, then averageing 7's most of the time , is this the norm ?

I to amT2 and only dx acouple of months and on metformin like you, i have lowered my carbs and watch my portion size and have lost a stone in weight. I do about an hour a day steady walking with my dogs for exercise so not doing too bad. but i'd be exstatic if my bg levels were like yours i'm struggling between 8 and 9's. I am getting the hang of what foods make my levels go up higher now so testing is working as i was on 11+ bg a month ago! so please don't feel alone as i've found this forum of great support. we're all in the same boat here aren't we :?:

Hi, I have an eight year old daughter diagnosed three weeks ago. I am finding counting carbs a nightmare and wonder how you do it - we're weighing food and using calculators! Do you just know the carbs of a certain meal? I am worried about her levels, usually between 5 and 12 but occasionally 16 to twenty. I think you're older than her? and wonder what you do about eating meals and snacks in particular. As she didn't used to have snacks, I don't know whether I have to introduce them now. In fact, I feel very ignorant about everything.

You're not ignorant - you're just new! You'll learn, then as your daughter gets older, she'll learn from you. You'll be able to make it much easier for her.

You HAVE got a lot of research ahead of you - but the T1's around here will help you a lot.

Hi ginx, yes I am maybe a few years older, like 52yrs older :( although it is still pretty hard i am getting to learn more about carbs etc, but then again having done weightlifting, boxing, i was aware of carbs and what they do and don't do, its now just a case of controling them, but as they say on here no 2 people are the same so its a case of trial and lets hope not too many errors.

My eldest son (now 28),was allergic to E numbers and dairy products, when he was 2yrs old, the wife paniced, but it was quite simple really, we all ate the same diet, which was basically a healthy diet, cutting out processed foods, frozen foods, ( there was some sad times, like when he went to birthday parties, with his own pack-lunch poor mite )and he got through it, simply bcause he was'nt treated differently from the family, maybe this is something to bear in mind with your daughter, do some research on here, and ask your gp, a sort of average daily intake of carbs, then just look at the chart on foods,it doe's get simplier, as you learn,(as I am)., she is only young, and it will be hard, they do not seem to cater for diabetics, in so much as deserts, but there are recipes, on here, get her involved, make her own , it a bit easier for me at my age, I can snack on bits of chicken, etc, no more processed ham etc, I buy them bacon joints, and soak them in water over night, roast them then I have a container of nice non-processed ham . The people on here are very helpful so just ask , and i am sure someone will answer... good luck ps . i snack on , all types of nuts,

Hi, I know I'm ignorant. I'm having to weigh out cups of rice and pasta and try and work out if a spoon of potato is egg sized to find out how much carbohyrdrate. I do wonder if my daughter is eating too much carb. She doesn't eat much protein and it was great to learn that NUTS are OK! What else is ok? Any ideas for healthy snacks apart from fruit (and how healthy is that?)
When feeding her, I don't count vegetables or meat ... then somebody reminded me that obviously SWEETCORN has carb in it. I should have realised that. She had her first hypo today - 3.0 - at lunch time. I am still going down to supervise, so I gave her 2 sweets and sent her in to eat lunch properly. She was very shakey and rather silly. Then I rounded her Novarapid down a fraction (altho I'm not supposed to be giving correction doses). At tea she was 10.8. It's all a mystery to me. Is she supposed to eat less carbs? Does she have to have snacks? I don't want her to get obese. Right now she's underweight as she is thin anyway and lost some before diagnosis. At least she does all her own blood tests and injections ... she's a good girl but it's hard for her with three siblings who all want deserts and sweets ... and it's hard for them too ... and that makes it hard for me. I am really grateful for replies and just reading other people's views. Thanks to everyone who's replied to me.
