Hi all,
I went for my annual eye check yesterday and was told that the cataract in my left eye that was 'good for at least another 5 years' a year ago has deteriorated to the extent that I now require surgery. Apparently it's on the edge of causing me to be disqualified from driving and as it happened quite quickly it's a bit urgent. So just wanted to alert others whose eyesight is blurry that this may not be caused by erratic blood sugars as I had supposed because I am a bit reactive, but be due to cataract problems. So if this is happening to you perhaps you should get your eyes tested or at least make sure you go for your annual check ups.

Thank you @yet_another_old_lady,
Sorry to hear of your trouble.
One trick my eye specialist suggested as a way to gain some idea about vision troubles was to look a printing in a book and also printing at a distance (shop sign etc).
Then with a piece of paper with a small hole like that made with the tip of a ball-point pen to look through at the book print and the distant sign. If any difficulty seeing either improved with looking through the 'pinhole' then wearing glasses or changing prescription of glasses MIGHT help.
He emphasised that the above was just a give a rough idea BUT dod not replace seeing one's GP.
In Australia diabetics are usually seen by an eye specialist for routine examination every 2 years. Sooner if there are changes detected.
