Cause for concern?

Type of diabetes
Don't have diabetes
I went to the gp yesterday for an appointment and she told me that my hba1c was 42 which is lower than last time and so she thinks i am still in the clear. However after reading around i found out that it is prediabetic and slightly higher than normal. Had my sugars tested as well and they were 10.2. Everyone is very confused and thinks i should just forget about it.
Is this anything to be worried about?
Is a hba1c of 42 normal?

Thank You

You say lower ... what was the highest figure?

When was the 10.2 recorded? Post meal? Are you on any meds?

If she thinks you were in the clear, a reading of 10.2 at 2 hours post meal suggests otherwise.

Others will make comment I'm sure, but anything in double figures that long after a meal is a concern. Do you have any previous HbA1c numbers?

No they are my only ones

Just looked at your post history @Fluffy12 ... Diabetic I'm afraid to say and it points to T1

Technically, your doctor is correct in that there is no evidence for a diagnosis of diabetes. Your HbA1c is only just over the line from non-diabetic to pre-diabetic, and your post meal 2 hour reading of 10.2 is also in the pre-diabetic range (over 11.1 is diabetic). However, with your symptoms and whatnot, she really should be keeping an eye on you. What exactly did she say as regards future tests?

Hi @Fluffy12
No one here can diagnose you. But if I were your mum I'd get you to a different doctor for some clarification.

She said that she will repeat the hba1c in the summer but that's about it.

The hba1c is not high enough to be diagnosed as a diabetic so,could it still be diabetes and what should I do??

Nobody on this forum can diagnose whether you have diabetes T1 or T2 or not at all. Diabetes is about constant high blood sugar readings. By constant I mean tests several hours after eating still above 11 and in to the teens.

As an example: Prior to diagnosis my fasting blood sugar tests (12 hours after eating) were in the 20s.

A 27.4 BS test less than 2 weeks ago suggests something else to me ... I'm erring way on the side of caution here given the fainting spells that accompanied that figure.

My symptoms are not that strong anymore so I don't have any way of knowing if I am high and can't get a meter as everyone thinks i am fine. What can I do?

Then back to your GP (or another) one for a definite opinion

Do you have a school Nurse?

I have an appointment but it is in march. Should i wait??
I would not wait, I would probably do a sit in until all T1 and T2 tests are completed, as well as a full blood panel.
