Just tried it tonight, really not for us, think its the texture to be honest, as it doesnt really taste of anything, and we even tried shoving mustard, ketchup in it, but to no avail, but if you dont try you will never know.... so its turnip and/or cauliflower mash for us in future :)

Celeriac is lovely in so many ways, pehaps you didn't find a cooking method to suit you.

Try it cubed, dressed in olive oil and roasted. Or sliced thinly with creme fraiche, garlic and gruyere to make a gratin. Or pureed to make a mash. Or used to thicken a soup. Or stir fied with butter, mustard and cream and onions to make a winter vegetable dish. Celeriac - ugly on the outside, beautiful on the inside.

Celeriac is my new addiction!

So far I have roasted it with other veg and olive oil & fresh rosemary - made chunky chips for a Mexican night served with the usual mexican dips mmmmm- told no one and everyone thought they were wonderful and wouldn't believe it wasn't some type of spud!

Mashed for a shepherd's pie topping and then for a fish pie but mixed it with a few pots too

made a cracking soup and sliced it thinly and deep fried it for crisps - in fact I am starting to look like a celeriac a bit knobbly with tough skin but a real yummy inside

Fergus, you just widened my horizons with your ideas on cooking celeriac. I'll be giving them all a try in the near future. Thanks.

I love it too , mashed with a bit of creme fraiche , yummy x

steamed then covered with white sauce and grated cheese, YUM!

celeriac & roquefort soup, also YUM!

essential as part of base veg for any decent stock (or soup for that matter)

Celeriac is SO useful when you really need a decent potato substitute! Chips are good and so is mash. If you like swede you could make "stwnch" by mashing the two together with butter, cream and loads of pepper, and it tastes MUCH yummier than it sounds. I must admit that I don't much like its texture when it it's just boiled in "lumps" but celeriac definitely replays being messed about with in creative ways :D
Give it a second chance please...
Cheers, BB :D
