Could say this about many illnesses but this stark sentence does imho sum up the dilemma but at the same time it should spur us on...
"Only around one per cent of a diabetic person's time is spent in the company of health professionals. The remaining 99 per cent of the time, the patient is managing their own diabetes."

and here is another good one:
" Some but not all health professionals were enthusiastic about people acquiring advanced knowledge about their diabetes and learning how to self-manage. "

I think you've just summed up my reason for taking complete control of my diabetes! It's understandable that some hcp's would be resistant to us taking responsibity...

That's fine - because only 1% of what they say is usable anyway...

Naughty boy!

I think the 1% of time that is useful is the time spent taking your blood and giving you the results. And maybe writing the prescription.

I think it was lucylocket [?} who summed it up nicely the other day iin a phrase about "if you don't want o help then at leas dont hinder me"
That is the real point for me. My HCPs are more of a hindrance I fear their interference. That is in my local practice.
They have already caused me some harm by overprescribing and had I not queried some medication they propsed for me I might now be blind.

I avaoid them as much as possible and have sleepless nights before any contact wih them And to think they are pickig up £2k a year for treating me like his.!
