NO to 9 No programme with doctor discussed - never even seen my GP, only a practice nurse. Did a Desmond course, (useless as it was far too late after I had been diagnosed) but apart from telling me to lose weight and eat 'well' (too many carbs of course) I've done all the research and hard work on diabetes myself.

Just read through this thread again and most replies seem to be saying that the tests are all being carried out, or at least the important ones, so what is the neglect that you say needs to be rectified?

If it was left to my practice I could have turned my answers around and said no to most of them, I have to make the running and arrange my own appointments except the hospital eye test.

It is of course possible that the type of patient who comes here manages their condition better than others and therefore is not representative of the norm - it is indicative but not an objective assessment.

Yes that could be true. I think it might also be the case that individuals are not always included because of admin and other problems. Just thnik of the massive changes in the NHS over the past few years.

It is probably quite unlikely that many Practices are failing to provide all of the tests and others may just be misinterpreing the requirments - just as respondents may be misinterpreing what actually goes on at t heir reviews.

I am conviced , for example, that if asked,, my surgery would say that individual targets and plans are discussed with the patient at the annual review. I have to answer from my point of view that this does not happen as no "discussion " is allowed.

My first thought when DUK began this campaign was -to misquote the Bard- "full of "soundbites " and fury - signifying - nothing."

I can now , however, see a point in it. There may well be pockets of ignorance and neglect or lack of provision which the local areas can't deal with. DUK is a powerful organisation and can help wih this. Even if the numbers are small the people concerned are as important as anyone else and a great deal of relevant informaion which could help everyone may emerge.

If the siuation is found to be generally excellent with everyone complying then that is reassuring for all - and DUK can move on to something more relevant and perhaps choose future campaigns on a different basis.

Either way here is nothing to lose. I suspect that the "postcode "lottery afffects people more in the detail of these checks eg
a chirpodist or the nurse , where the blood samples are taken , how much the GP ineracts wi patients.

So really its a win-win sitution for us and so much easier to comoplete in the format above.

This is my first post on the forum, after lurking for ages, so I thought I'd make it a useful one ....

1. Yes
2. Yes, BP is normal so no personal BP target set.
3. Yes, total, HDL & Trigs, but not LDL.

5. Vibration test on feet only. No other tests on feet or legs.
6. Yes
7. Yes, no waist measurement taken, and personal care plan is lose weight following the NHS diet.
8. N/A - Non-smoker.
9. GP keeps urging me to take statins & other meds, even though I now have BMI of 23 (I lost 20kg within 6 months of T2 diagnosis), and HBA1c of 36. (It was 83 on diagnosis 07/12 - I did have an infection at the time). I currently have no other health issues, except an underactive thyroid, and NO detectable diabetic complications. Total chol was 5 on 8/12 - a month after dx. I want to maintain my good BG’s and weight with my lowish-carb/moderate fat/portion control diet & exercise regime as it's clearly working right now - GP wants me to take the meds regardless ....

9 my diabetic nurse does all the checks, but the care planning is a bit hit and miss

Thanks for your answer Desi, I would imagine that if DUK are aware of problems then they will already be aware of the areas in question as it can be very easily checked via the QOF reports, I believe there is a web site that breaks down the country if not doctor by doctor then certainly health care trust by trust, I cant find the link at present but I know it has been posted here before possibly by Catherine.

It listed every area so you could check your area to see how they compared to other surgerys, hopefully someone will read this and post the link, if not I will try and find it tomorrow if I get the chance, Im sure it will be just what you are looking for. :thumbup:

Yes I get all of those checks , but because I have to use Animal Insulin I am refused help and advice . 23 weeks ago started with a Dry cough which turned into
a Lung and Sinus infection begining of March , GP said he couldnt hear anything , had to increase Insulin to counteract B/G rising .
Went to A&E ( 12miles ) , "yes you have sparklies on your Left Lung" , 2 more weeks 1st coarse antibiotics then 2 more coarses ,
still no better , wait 6 weeks for resporatry referral still waiting for scan results .
I dont want to go into Hospital had the Nora Virus April 2012 (vomiting blood clots) but had to discharge myself , they have no training in Endocrine management , all medication is locked away and Sister with a key didnt arrive until 11am so I missed breakfast .
They didnt like Bovine Insulin or Natural Thyroid , not aware of timing of Insulin and Thyroid before eating , the fact I was 75 had
serious autoimmune problems , in 52 nd year of diabetes meant nothing to them ,so I went home to do the best I could it was safer .
