My fathers Hbalc is currently 6 and his fasting blood sugar 2 days was 115 and 2 hours post meal was 185. He currently is on Metformin 500 Mg twice a day. His doctor has now prescribed the following medication:

Saxagliptin-Metformin 5/1000 - take half a tablet twice a day

Glicazide 30MG - Take 1 tablet after lunch

He also takes the following medication as he has bypass surgery earlier this year:

Aspirin Protect 100 mg
Concor 5 mg
Crestor 40 mg
Plavix 75 mg
Amlodipine 10 mg

I need to know a couple of things as my fathers doctor is a bit of a cowboy:

- Are there any side effects to taking Glicazide as I'm concerned about his blood sugar falling too low

- Will the prescribed medication interact in any way with his current medication.

Hi. A few points. If you father's HBA1C really is 6% then I'm surprised he needs any Gliclazide or the Gliptin as a figure of 6% is good. I can't comment on any drug interaction between the other drugs he takes. I've never seen any concern about Gliclazide with other drugs but you must check with the drug leaflet or pharmacy/Dr; same for Saxagliptin. A 30mg Glic dose is very low and unlikely to cause a hypo but just keep an eye on the BS.
