Hi there,

Ive been Type 2 diabetic since 1990, first diet control, then after 10 years diet & tablets and now today I'm on Insulin + Metformin, having stopped taking Gliclacide and Saxagliptin. From around April 2004 thru May 2011 my HbA1c on an average used to be reasonably constant at 7.6 although on the odd occasion it rose to 8.3. In 2007 I was prescribed Actos which I continued to take until May 2011when I was taken off of it because I raised a query about an article I read of the potential risk that it might cause Bladder Cancer. Strange, in Sept 2007 I was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer which necessitated my Bladder being removed and whist they were at it they removed my prostate. After the Histology was done on all the bits they'd taken away they also found I had prostate cancer. Not bad "two for the price of one" I was fortunate neither cancer had spread and luckily I didn't need to undergo any further treatment ( Well apart from living with a stoma for the rest of my life. They kept a regular eye on me and I go to see my consultant now once a year.

Because I'd been taken off Actos my diabetic control went haywire, I was eventually put on Saxigliptin but this didn't help at all. In Nov 2011 my AbA1c had gone to 9.2, Jan 2012 to 9.3 and in May it was 10.2.

So today I've started on Humulin 3 - 10 units twice a day, as a new boy, I'd be interested to hear from others on a similar regime.

Best wishes

Mike

Hello there Mike and welcome  I am type 1 myself so I cant help very much as I am not on a similar regime. I hope this bumps up your post and some other type2's will be along with some support and helpful advice, you certainly have been through the mill, haven't you :( Take care and best wishes

Hi Mike! I can't really help because I'm not on meds of that nature, but just wanted to say Hi and welcome, and good luck for the future.

Hi Mike!

I'm only a few days in on insulin too and I'm taking Humalin I but once a day,It's going well so far,no hypo's and much improved readings although I was shocked at first as to how little I actually needed,my consultant told me to start on 10 units but I found I only need about 6 units at present.I hope things work out the way you want too! :D

Welcome and best wishes

Paul

Hi there, thank for the support. apparently 10 units wasn't doing the trick so from tonight I've increased to 14 units so we will see how that goes.

Best wishes

Mike
