Has anybody had any experience in this from a diabetes point of view.?

Do repeat prescriptions follow you? Has anyone had any differing treatment?

As a generalisation, you just register with the new gp and then they can access you NHS medical records on-line. So everything you had before should follow you.

Best to fill your prescription before you change as sometimes a new GP won't do anything till you've had a new patient check with the practice nurse. Records should transfer electronically Gp to GP but not all of them do so don't assume your new surgery will have your record any time soon. If the electronic record doesnt go over bear in mind it can take weeks for the paper records to go across. Make sure you get a print out of your repeat prescription from your existing surgery and attach a copy with your registration form at the new surgery to get the ball rolling on that.

I would give a fib and say you are going on holiday for couple weeks and need a couple weeks extra meds...just to give enough back up just in case whilst transferring.
I told my GP when were moving that I was going on a 6 week cruise - timed just right so I got 8 weeks of meds.
It was funny as I had to describe places I'd never thought of and had to look these places up before Inasked the GP for the extra using my fib....

Hiya shells yeh croc has it spot on. I have changed with moving with my job probably around 10times now. Anything you have to keep. Maybe before leaving your surgery just get a copy of things like injections you have had because that can be a nightmare if they disappear.

Generally it's fine to move. Obviously your relationships are new and some will want to check in the surgery how you are etc some not. My suggestion is think what you want from your new gp for you and go armed with that. Generally though they are cool different at each gps like school may research the best one in your new area before registering just to get a sense of what would be good to you
