Changing Medication

This is my first post, and i'm hoping to tap into the wealth of knowledge on this board.

Currently, i'm looking to speak to my doctor about changing my current medication. The reason being is that i am not happy with my weight. I have gone from 72kg when initially diagnosed 3 years ago, to my current weight - 63kg.

Bit of background, my diabetes was triggered when getting a nerve tap, to alleviate the pain of a back injury.

Since day 1, i have been on Metformin (2 x 500mg), and i have been "fairly" happy with my BS levels (last Hba1c - 6.4), except when trying to gain a bit of weight, which definitely pushed them to levels they should not go to!!

Has anyone had much experience changing their medication to gain a bit of weight? I know many cases of the reverse but i don't come across many diabetics trying to gain weight.

I am considering asking to go onto a mix of Metformin and something like Gilclazide. Has anyone had much experience with this?

Any help/advise whould be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Welcome to the Forum.

The weight loss may not be associated with your diabetes. Have you had your thyroid function checked? An overactive thyroid can produce weight loss. I would see your GP to discuss your weight issue.

Hi. What is your BMI? Any reason why you want to increase your weight? I don't think you should think of adjusting your meds to control weight as such. If you do need to increase weight then adjust your diet and then adjust your meds to control resulting blood sugar if needed. If your weight really is too low then discuss other possibilities with the doc. BTW I'm happy with my 60Kg.
