- Diet only
So we are 4.5 Years into remission now and a lot has changed since April.
I changed up my diet after surgery earlier this year. 4 years in and I had reached my ability to just eat low carb meals all the time, and high fat diet was starting to cause me other issues (gut health, blood markers etc).
I booked in with a Nutritional Coach and then with my GP.
We looked back at all my past results, markers and other testing I have had done over the years. Barring the two results at my point of diagnosis I had never been in the diabetic range.
There was a lot of discussion and the consensus was I was obvioulsy in the T2 range for those 3 weeks, but that the drop from T2 to 31 in under 6 months was not normally seen with just pure diet.
The weight loss obvioulsy helped a lot, and there was a clear agreement I had insulin sensitivity issues at that point, but given the results and the quick turn around, the weight and fat around the relevant organs was inhibiting that insulin response.
We concluded I would go about my life for the next 3-6 months and eat what I would consider a normal diet that I could see myself able to manage with forever.
Off I went, I still eat plenty of low carb meals but I started to replace some of the meat with a bag of crisps, Greggs meal deal on the go rather than some terrible over pirced leafy green floppy salad box.
This really helped with the longer days, and on the back of this I was able to hit the gym more often and was able to eat before / after on the go.
I kept a track on my bloods morning and post meals, mornings varied from 4.5 - 6.0
Post meal checks were more or less the same, I saw which foods spiked me higher than I would like but even after a trip to Pizza hut my 2 hours post was 7.4 it took longer to drop back down to my 5.5-6.0 walking about range but it did.
Then it was time for bloods and my HHB1AC back as a 34 this week.
After a chat with Doc we will check again in 6 months time, at which point he has said if everything stays as it is we will consider the diagnosis reversed (yay for my insurance premiums and health care !!!!)
I am fully aware I am/was clearly insulin resistant so I will not be going off drinking full fat coke and chips every day, but at the same time I can for now at least seem to enjoy some of the nicer things in life again!
Figure this may make a good read and open up some discussion.
