There are some sugar free cough medicines but I’ve not taken one for many years so can’t remember the names of them,

Found this one for you but there are many others if you google:)

Hope you’re feeling better soon

When I needed one some years ago. I went into chemist and asked for the best sugar free one for my cough. They produced a generic one from behind the counter, it was revolting but helped.

I find guaifenesin quite helpful. You find it in many 'mucus cough' labelled syrups. It thins the mucus and makes it easier to cough up.
I'm currently getting over another bout of COVID, and in the morning I take a dose of this, drink a load of water and inhale some steam from the kettle, then do some deep breathing and cough up a load of gross stuff, then my chest and airways feel a lot clearer.

I like A Vogel Ivy-Thyme complex. You put a few drops in a small glass of water and sip. As far as I can understand there’s no sugar in it. It is surprisingly effective, in my experience.
I also use Vogel Ivy Thyme and they do Bronchoforce for chesty cough it works well

The term "big boned" lol repeatedly told this growing up!

I used to tell the kids that medicine that tasted yucky was the one that would work, seems to be right!
