Childrens blood sugar

Was testing my blood sugar and my neice who's 9 and isn't diabetic, wanted to see what hers was, anyway i tested her and it was 15 mmol, i asked when did she last eat, which was about an hour before, tested an hour later and it was 5mmol, is spiking like this normal in children?

Did you wash her hands pre 15.0 reading? Likely that she had something on them????
