Chocolate Biscuits and Low BG Readings

Hello everyone,

Can anyone help with this paradox? I’ve been following a low carb diet for the last 8 months and have no problems sticking with it 95% of the time. However, being human I sometimes have things that I know I shouldn’t such as chocolate biscuits. A couple of nights ago I was late home, had no shopping so picked up some meat, greens and a packet of biscuits, on the pretext that they would last a week (who was I kidding)! Suffice to say, meat and veg were fine but the biscuits were heaven! So much so, that I had scoffed half a packet whilst watching the telly.

My BG are usually very good with the exception of the dreaded dawn phenomenon (which I not that bothered about - BG ranges from 5.4 -6.2 even though readings before bed are usually about 5.2. Otherwise, BG are quite good: pre meal 4.8 – 5.2, 2 hours post 5.4 – 6.2. The only foods that really spike me are the usual suspects – white bread, potatoes, pasta and white rice. However, after testing 2 hours post heavenly experience my BG was 5.7 and the next morning was 5.2. Has anyone any ideas why that happened? I thought it would have been in the stratosphere.

Many thanks,

Paul

No idea but could you please tell me what brand of chocolate biscuits? I might like to test them out myself (ahem).
