Have you all given up chocolate alltogether or do you have something every so often to deal with your sweet craving.? I have to admit to having a small chocolate wafer (dark choc) it says 14 carbs on it made by Ainsley Harriott, I find one of those or a couple of pieces of 70% aldi choc is not too bad for me. I have zero jelly and use cream and berries for sweets and sometimes low fat ice cream (just a scoop), believe it or not a slice of vienetta does not do anything drastic to me. I only take one 500mg metformin in the evening so cannot munch away at much as I am doing a relatively low carb thing (around 80ish carbs a day). Zero lemonade and tea and wine are my drinks. These are my bad things that keep me going on this diet  I of course eat a lot of salad meat eggs fish and veg but it has to be interspersed with a bit of a treat once in a while for me anyway I have to sustain this for the rest of my life. What kind of treats do you indulge in foodwise?

Hi

Yes i occassionally have a small amount of chocolate to kill that craving dark chocolate if possible its not as sweet and less sugar, Does anyone know what dark chocolate is the best to get i always thought Bournville would be the best dark chocolate.

I buy Aldi's 85% cocoa chocolate (Moser Roth). A packet cost 99p and there are 5 bars in a packet. Each bar has only 5g carbs. I allow myself one bar per day (two on a bad day!)

White chocolate was always my thing and Aldi's being lovely and half the price of Lindt-is a bargain IMO!! REALLY miss white chocolate!

and mine!!!!

I read the back of the chocolate bar and pick the lowest carb/110g, one called 'Divine' (it is) has 26g carb/100g if I remember right. Also buy the Aldi and Lidl chocolate bars as they are already portioned making it easier to restrict myself.

Hi. I buy Green & Blacks 85%. It has less than 20gm carb per 100g and is smoother to my taste than most of the other 85% brands

Im going to have to stop eating even dark chocolate as I think that is what has been rocketing my BG so high this last week or so, its a shame but its going to have to happen

I buy Sainsburys Extra Dark Chocolate. They do a pack of 5 x 25g bars which are 4.3g per bar. As it is so dark (and therefore fairly bitter) I break each bar into 4 and let myself have one bit after dinner. Because it's so dark the flavour lingers for ages in the mouth. I don't very often have a pudding after meals very often - once in a while I make a home made apple crumble and use Splenda granulated to sweeten it a bit (my husband swears he can tell when something's got sweetener in it but he hasn't noticed yet), a fairly thin crumble topping and a bit of cream or 0% fat Total yoghurt. As long as it's not an every day thing I think it's ok to give yourself a treat now and then. If I'm out for a meal I try to have a low carb starter like prawn cocktail without sauce, a main that includes a salad and then I nick some of hubby's pud or have cheese and biscuits but only have one or two biscuits. My weakness is on a Tuesday night when I have a Canadian Club rye with diet lemonade but apart from a rare glass of wine (alcohol tends to make feel nauseous ) I don't really drink which means I get lumbered with being the driver when out.

Excellent chocolate at a reasonable cost, I stopped eating chocolate altogether but before I did Aldi's was my preference every time.

I still have the odd bit of chocolate every now and again. I don't go mad, but I don't see anything wring with having a little every so often. I'm lucky in that I don't normally have a sweet tooth, when I do it's terrys chocolate orange all the way. I like to kid myself into believing it's one of my five day

I often have popcorn instead of chocolate - it's not quite as calorific and doesn't have so much of an effect on my blood sugars. Let's face it though, there are sometimes where chocolate is the only answer!

As long as it's in moderation you should be fine. After all, I control my diabetes, it doesn't control me lol.
