Hi All.

I was hoping someone knowledgeable could comment on my readings below, I have gone low carb for the 10 weeks prior to the latest readings and dropped about a stone. I have also been eating one meal a day twice a week and I am not overweight.

(mmol/l)

Dec 2017
Cholesterol 6.1
HDL 1.23
LDL 4.23
Triglyceride 1.4
TC:HDL 4.96

Jun 2019
Cholesterol 7.38
HDL 1.5
LDL 5.56
Triglyceride 0.7
TC:HDL 4.92

Doctor has mentioned the statins word to me now because of the LDL. Reading around before these results I had expected total and LDL to go up based on my diet, but had hoped the HDL ration would improve but it seems fairly stable, however the Trig has halfed which I think is good, no? Any input would be appreciated.

Your trig/HDL ratio is excellent (0.4666 anything under 0.87 is considered very good) and if you are in weight loss mode then LDL will likely be higher anyway.
In your shoes I'd be very pleased with those numbers.

I printed out an article from the BMJ open site which reported that after analyzing data on LDL and age at death for about 68,000 people, having a higher level of LDL was associated with living longer in a significant number of individuals.
I gave it to the nurse I saw after my last blood test - her task was to get me to agree to go back on statins rather than anything to do with diabetes, but she went a bit quiet.
