Cholesterol and statins

I am interested in what dosage of Statins everyone is on. Going back 10 years my Doc put me straight way on 40mg tabs of simvastin, I was a marginal case of T2 and Chol was 5+. I had a bad time tollerating this doze and eventually gave up. Had no idea until recently in talking to fellow sufferers that some of them were on 10mg. I am interested to hear what Statins are most easily tolerated, I know about the lucky people who tolerate Simvastin but, I am not one of those and am thus interested to hear about other regimes.

No, not disappointed - why would I be????

I don't deny that statins have a lowering effect on TC levels (they lower the level of 'big fluffy' 'good' LDL particles), but, as TC does not cause CVD (it is only one of many [I believe there are some 320] makers), why take a 'dangerous' drug to lower it?

What are your thoughts on simvastatin causing increased insulin resistance?

If all this weren't enough to make you think twice about taking a statin, a study published in the journal Diabetes in January 2008 found that the statin, Zocor, decreases the hormone, Adiponectin, that keeps people from gaining weight and makes people who take it more insulin resistant.

Can the epidemic of misprescribing of Statins have something to do with the huge growth in obesity and blood sugar disorders?

Thanks for your contributions to this thread. I can trawl the Internet for references for and against statins. Like a lot of medication, however, it is about balancing any risk with the benefits gained. I am very pleased with my medication usage, with no side effects, and the risks that I may have accepted.
