Got some of my results it was a nurse my cholesterol has went from 4.5 to 5.6 but she said that the low number was fine I as I asked about ratios as I have heard people mention on here is that a worrying figure?

You have ask for a fasting cholesterol check in order to get a full lipid breakdown, the advice is not to eat or drink (except water) for 10-12 hours before the bloods are taken, if yours wasn't a fasting check then its unlikely they'll have a breakdown of your cholesterol.

The following are the target cholesterol levels that they want people with diabetes to aim for:

  • Your total cholesterol level should be below 4.0mmol/l.
  • LDL levels should be less than 2.0mmol/l.
  • HDL levels should be 1.0mmol/l or above in men and 1.2mmol/l or above in women.
  • Triglyceride levels should be 1.7mmol/l or less.

Well if they are happy with your cholesterol levels then you have nothing to worry about, the target cholesterol levels for non-diabetics are different to people living with the condition.

If in doubt ask for a print out of your latest results. Best wishes.

What does Ichf stand for please?

My cholesterol is higher than 5 just, but the good cholesterol is higher, the bad is ok, and as my blood sugar for the last couple of years has been perfect I wonder if a cholesterol of over 4 matters to me. I do not want to take statins.

I asked my doctor if there was anything wrong with my test results he said no. When I saw the nurse I asked again. 5.8. Never been that high before. So you can see why, every time I go I lose more confidence in them. Anyway Atorvastatin doubled to 40mg and awaiting new test. Now I'm worried about the effect the larger dose might have on BG levels

What level does statins get prescribed my hba1c is within normal range

I've also read a lot saying that cholesterol isn't as big a factor as made out to be and depends what the ratios are

In my personal experience Statins are a very bad thing because of side effects.

I have high cholesterol but blood pressure is fine and a recent scan for Aortic Aneurysm (age related screening) showed good results - right shape, right size and no **** adhering to the walls.

I assume this shows that my blood vessels are not being clogged by cholesterol.

I eat LCHF(ish) and my weight and BG are acceptable.
