Has anyone read the clot thickens by Malcolm Kendrick, he says that LDL is a completely useless value and the latest scientific research starts that LDL is not contained in arterial plaque.

Thank you @Antje77. Your charts are encouraging. Your example should give me the will-power to keep trying, in case it works for me also.
My total cholesterol is moving downwards. From total cholesterol of 6.3 in May, it is now 5.7. Although there is still some way to go, I am pleased with that. The total/HDL ratio remains at 2.8. But despite asking the nurse taking bloods for triglycerides figures, they were not done.

I have just had a telephone conversation with 'my' GP. I mentioned that I was pleased that the cholesterol level is going down. She replied: "it shows that statins work". When I pointed out that I had refused statins, she then backtracked by saying that she has to recommend statins because of her job, but added that I could refuse any medication that doctors recommend, including insulin. I would not place life-saving insulin in the same category as statins, but perhaps that was her way of emphasising how important she thinks statins are.

Read it a few days ago after reading his earlier book about statins and cholesterol. Fascinating and makes a change from reading yards of this study and that study in scientific journals. Surprisingly enough both books also brought on a smile or too!

I have had high ldl's for nearly 2 decades. ldl (2006) - 113mg/dl. trig dropped due to low carbs , usually 40mg/dl - 60mg/dl.
Since I have family history of CAD, I visited a cardiologist. He advised me to eat fish but not chicken, avoid full fat dairy. Ldl - 164mg/dl when I saw the cardiologist. I followed low carb with low fat diet but I ate nuts. ldl = 124mg/dl without medicine. It dropped by 38 points i.e 23.1% decrease.
Finally I decided to go on ldl reducing medicine (Bemdac) since statins were causing increase in liver enzymes (ALT & ALP).
Low fat diet thing worked for me partially.
I have been told eating too many nuts also will affect ldl. Trying to reduce them. Want ldl to be in the range of 50mg/dl-60mg/dl due to family history.
