I have had high ldl's for nearly 2 decades. ldl (2006) - 113mg/dl. trig dropped due to low carbs , usually 40mg/dl - 60mg/dl.
Since I have family history of CAD, I visited a cardiologist. He advised me to eat fish but not chicken, avoid full fat dairy. Ldl - 164mg/dl when I saw the cardiologist. I followed low carb with low fat diet but I ate nuts. ldl = 124mg/dl without medicine. It dropped by 38 points i.e 23.1% decrease.
Finally I decided to go on ldl reducing medicine (Bemdac) since statins were causing increase in liver enzymes (ALT & ALP).
Low fat diet thing worked for me partially.
I have been told eating too many nuts also will affect ldl. Trying to reduce them. Want ldl to be in the range of 50mg/dl-60mg/dl due to family history.
