Cholesterol

Update: New blood results, based on 16 hour fast:
Total count: 4.8
HDL: 0.8
Trig: 4.2
LDL: 2.0
LDL/HDL: 0.38
Non HDL: 4.0

These results are obviously quite different to the first test, but that was taken when I was only 1 week into LCHF diet (I'm now 1 month in). My trigliceride levels are still high, but have come down significantly (apparently they started at 17, then 13.8 and now 4.2), so my results are a little out there. My HDL is low, but has increased slightly since the first test, so I'm hoping this means things are going in the correct direction and I may not need to take a statin.

Having looked this up, I know that a low HDL and high triglicerides means I'm more likely to have higher levels of small dense LDL particles, which isn't a good thing. Is there more that I should be doing to reduce tryglicerides further and raise HDL, do you think? I'm now taking omega 3 daily, and am still following LCHF diet, exercising twice a day and my BG levels over the last few days have been between 4.9-5.8 (with a blip of 6.1 this morning) before and after meals. Thanks

Thanks for the update. These results are much more reassuring and certainly heading in the right direction! Your hard work is definitely paying off.

Just keep doing what you are doing because it's obviously working for you.
Don't get stressed about the speed of progress, it takes time for your metabolism to heal.

Thanks - I guess I'll just keep going and hope things continue to improve in the HDL and Trigs department. The reduction in Trigs has been pretty quick initially, so I imagine that might slow down, but fingers crossed that by my first 3 month check (April), and next Hba1c test that all figures are much better

That's a huge improvement in triglyceride levels. Were you eating a lot of fruit when you had the previous test ?
Fructose is one of the things to avoid with hypertriglyceridemia . just wondering if that might have been the problem.

I was a week into LCHF at that point and had had no fruit for a week (doc told me to avoid it all!). Prior to that I’d had lots of fruit juice and fruit salad, but I’m not sure how long that would affect trig levels for?!

Smart Doc!
Not sure.. cholesterol levels can be pretty dynamic but I'm not sure anyone has particularly studied trig levels.
