Re: choestrel

Low fat is the conventional information. It works indifferently.
What actually DOES work well is a low carb diet. Read Gary Taubes on the subject.

Re: choestrel

Reduce your carbohydrate intake:

Dr Richard Feinman said:
Dietary carbohydrate restriction is the single most effective method (except for total starvation) of reducing triglycerides, and is as effective as any intervention, including most drugs, at increasing HDL and reducing the number of small-dense LDL particles. Beyond lipid markers, carbohydrate restriction improves all of the features of metabolic syndrome.

Eating fewer carbohydrates should reduce the quantity of fatty acids in your blood-stream:
Dr Richard Feinman said:
One of the more remarkable results from Jeff Volek’s laboratory in the past few years was the demonstration that when the blood of volunteers was assayed for saturated fatty acids, those who had been on a low carbohydrate diet had lower levels than those on an isocaloric low-fat diet. This, despite the fact that the low-carbohydrate diet had three times the amount of saturated fat as the low-fat diet. How is this possible? What happened to the saturated fat in the low-carbohydrate diet? Well, that’s what metabolism does. The saturated fat in the low-carbohydrate arm was oxidized while (the real impact of the study) the low-fat arm is making new saturated fatty acid. Volek’s former student Cassandra Forsythe extended the idea by showing how, even under eucaloric conditions (no weight loss) dietary fat has relatively small impact on plasma fat.

Hello springer I found out, 2 weeks ago, my cholestrol was also 5.2, higher than previously, but my dr explained this morning that I have a higher rate of the 'good fats'? and he said it works out at 3.1. He also talked of taking statins, but he didn't say it was advisable for me to go them just yet, when I have the next blood test, then we could discuss it.

The best way, for anyone, is a lower fat diet and plenty of exercise. I hope you find something that works for you.r
