Cholesterol

Hello all,
I had my six monthly check up yesterday. All good but there's something I don't quite get, my cholesterol level six months ago was 5.8 and now its down to 3.9. I haven't changed my diet at all and I'm probably not quite as busy either. Why would that happen? Is there anything else that affects cholesterol? The only thing that's changed is that I'm ingesting weed rather than hash more than I used to but I don't think that would affect it, would it? My retinopathy seems to have slowed down to a stop too. I don't understand!:?

I can't possibly comment on the hash or weed as I've never used either :)

That said 3.9 is a good cholesterol level and below the recommended level of 4 for people with diabetes, next time you have your bloods taken ask for a fasting cholesterol check where they can give you a full lipid breakdown of you cholesterol, the total figure is meaningless with knowing what your HDL, LDL and Trigs levels.

Good news on the retinopathy front

Thanks, yeah I will ask for a fasting test to see, I wasn't aware of that. I don't take enough to get the "munchies" not for a while anyway, it is purely for medicinal. That's something you can learn to control although it can help in those times when you really should eat something but don't really feel like it. Generally people who talk about munchies and that have a stereotypical view of people who enjoy a smoke and dont get that the vast majority of us are so far removed from the aforementioned stereotype, you probably wouldn't believe that i smoke if you met me. There is little info on cannabis and cholesterol but there are a lot more cannabanoids in weed in general over hash, and a lot less additives, which could quite possibly influence the metabolism of fats. THC is not water soluble, therefore must interact with fat stores for metabolism.

Thanks noblehead, it always puts a smile on my face when people are so willing to help each other around here. This is the only place where I don't seem to get judged for being into cannabis, perhaps the diabetics round here can see why you would turn to something like that. I first tried it when I started doing contract work in Holland and it was nothing to do with anything bar "when in Rome" however, I noticed that it stopped that wrechy type feeling you get when you spike or that horrible post hypo nausea. I followed by doing some research and to my amazement, it had been proved to have positive affects on various ailments both to do and not to do with diabetes. Like I said my retinopathy has not got any worse and this has been linked to cannabis. In 2008 my opthalmologist wanted to perform a vitrectomy on my right eye due to macular oedema but decided not to go for the surgery. At that time, I couldn't even read the big number on the sight chart, now I'm 3 lines down and have had nothing more than photographs every six months for the last two years. I started smoking weed daily in 2009. My left eye is perfect so no real need for the surgery in my opinion but that's just me, it can still be done. My point is that I KNOW weed is doing something but the taboo surrounding it is so deeply ingrained that people automatically think is bad for them mentally and physically even though there is no hard evidence. I honestly believe through experience and common sense that this drug has positive affects on the human body and I will take part in any experiment anyone is willing to do.

Jeez I need a joint now!
