hi fellow forumers :), okay im a type 1 diabetic and have been diagnosed since March. It was my birthday today and im planning to go to the cinema tomorrow night and Id like to have a regular cinema popcorn as a treat. I have not eaten popcorn since I was diagnosed and was wondering what I should do about eating popcorn, do I need to take any insulin with it? Im in my honeymoon phase atm so my readings are great ( as my DN says so) so i am not taking as much insulin, i take 4 of my nova rapid with meals and 10 of my lantus for nights, am I best ringing my diabetes nurse and asking? Or is that just silly? What has anybody else done when they've had cinema popcorn? Thanks :)

For future info try http://www.freeist.co.uk .... I cannot get a grip on insulin and popcorn but came across this company...I have tried their sweet salted mix (not notmally a fan of salted popcorn) it was delicious!! They also do a caramel/toffee sugar free flavour...yet to try this! I find it much easier just taking insulin for the carbs and not needing to worry about the sugar aspect!!! :)

Thanks everyone for you advice!:) i did call my diabetes nurse and she adviced me to have plain popcorn and not too much, in the end i just had a little snack it box of popcorn and wasn't able to finish it anyways! i will use your answers in future too so thanks again:)

just back from the cinema, and had a large bag of pop corn which has had no effect on my blood sugars at all, honeymoon period ;)
only on 3mg of solar star morning and night, not on the fast acting yet :)

I always have problems when it comes to cinema popcorn. Blood glucose shoots from resting 7 to 20 no matter of how much insulin I have in advance. I have made my own in the past, coated with canderell (sweetner) and that has worked really well and is decent enough, great for home consumption where it's healthier and you have a lot of control of flavouring. But nowt beats cinema popcorn.

Thanks all! I went the cinema again last night to watch straight outta Compton, amazing film, go see it if you can, I had a regular popcorn but i couldnt manage to eat even half of it still i was fine when I got in anyways :)
