Ok so I've stopped the Gymnema temporarily today to see if that is what's causing the cramp. It's the other new thing in the mix. Off to see the gp as well though.

Trying out Celeriac chips tonight!
You just had to mention Celeriac chips didn't you!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone else experienced a light headed feeling about 20 to 30 minutes after taking the Gymnema? It lasts a few minutes, not long at all, but it happens every time I take a capsule. I'm not really worried about it, but wondered if it happened to anyone else.

I take three capsules a day between meals to curve cravings. I don't take them on an empty stomach, but I do usually take them with fresh filter coffee so the caffeine might affect them.

Julia

Never had that happen Julia, but like you if I did I would ride the storm. Celeriac chips are nicer than potato ones I think. I just cut the celeriac into chip shapes, boiled until soft then put them into smoking oil. Turned half way and voila. Yummy.

Good luck with the cramping, I seriously sympathise. I'm sure you will love celeriac chips, they really are lovely. Had caulie mash today, I've never been able to make it really 'mash like'. Today I put more cream in, perfect. I also used a food mixer, with both new things, they were perfect. Feeling rather full now. :D

I've never had any bother with the Gymnema apart from the light headedness, but the Bitter Melon did give me cramps. The banaba is fine too.

Can't find a celeriac round here for love nor money. Just fancied some mashed too......it's so utterly perfect with chicken.

Sainsbury's here have celeriac in. I have no problem with the Bitter Melon either. Not tried Banaba, that is next. Would someone PM me with the link to where they get theirs - Thanks :D

Swapped from Bitter Melon to Cinnamon Bark capsules this morning - will see what happens (if I can manage the Cinnamon, as they're huge)..

I'm having some problems with the cinnamon. I get the burps as well but the gassyness actually hurts quite a bit. I think I'll avoid them for a few days and see if it clears.

Yes I got that with the Cinnamon for a couple of days then it went. If it had stayed doing it then like you Swimmer I think I'd have given up as well. I think I remember Patch saying he had a similar issue.

Just taking BM now at 1500mg in the morning and 1500mg in the evening. My 7 day daily average has levelled out at 5.0 plus or minus 0.1. Since giving up the Gymnema have had no more cramps but there again I'm getting through tonic water at a rate of knots.

My wife is still taking Gymnema and is pleased with its appetite suppressant properties.

I tried to take the Cinnamon but couldn't get passed the smell so had to give up as it made me feel ill.

I am now taking the Gymnema and haven't noticed any bad side effects but have noticed the appetite suppressant properties and, when added to the same properties with my Metformin, I am having to make sure I don't forget to eat. Not a thing I have ever done in the past.

I am hoping to add Bitter Melon to my regime on the next few weeks but I have a long, long way to go and want to take things slowly so that I don't blame the wrong thing if my readings or general health change in the wrong direction.

I shall have to re-read this thread to refresh my memory on what to expect with the BM.

I read recently that Coenzyme Q10 was also good for diabetes amongst other things. So I bought some. I've spent the past three days in the bathroom.....it had the most awful effect on my system. I've now stopped taking it.

(Another side effect of spending time in the bathroom is realising that I really must finish the decorating in there!)

So just in case anyone was thinking of adding it to their armoury - take heed! Lots of places that sell Coenzyme Q10 don't say that terminal squitters is a common side effect. And that it can catch you very short indeed!

Thankfully, it's the wall next to the loo that's finished....it's papered with Bartholomew's maps, the south of England up to north Shropshire, dating from the 1930s through to the early 60s. Very interesting to read, no motorways, everywhere had a station within a mile or two.

I must paper the other walls......got all of the maps. The next wall around will be from Hampshire across to Kent and up to North Norfolk and back across to the west, joining the loo wall at Leicestershire.

Anyway, I digress from the thread topic......

Xyz,

Because I was so bad, I can't persuade MH to take them - they were bought with him in mind - but not everybody is affected like I was. Some sites say less than 1% of people, some sites say it's a common side effect. But quite a few of those said the TS will stop when you stop taking the CQ10.....but that's not what I needed to hear. I couldn't find anywhere that said it's a temporary side effect.

I felt so ill, I couldn't continue taking them to see if it would go away once the CQ10 was in your system. I suppose they could help with weight loss in the same way that top models take laxatives...... :***:

I have been using CQ10 for some years, I have a problem with my immune system, and have never had any side effects other than a racing heart when I first took them. Guess I am lucky.

More likely that you're normal and I'm unlucky, to be honest. But I thought I would forewarn folk. I'm waiting until I feel 100% before starting my other new supplements - bladderwrack, acai berries, cayenne slender and dhea. I shall start them gradually.

I could be addicted to supplement shopping - I blame Holland & Barrett who have an MFI-like sale going most of the time!

I've found another anti-diabetic supplement;

http://www.rain-tree.com/damiana.htm

Sounds like it could be beneficial in more ways than one, unless you're inclined to hypo.

I shall be trying it for the 'female health properties' as I've already bought mine. There was a very elderly gentleman in H&B who saw my bottle and said he used it to great effect. He is 93 years old, he said. That nearly put me off

Right gone back on Gymnema. Average levels have jumped by nearly 0.5 since I stopped just over a week ago even though my carbs / day are less this week. No longer getting many 4's at all. Nothing to worry about but just irritating. Will see if the cramp returns as I'm ensuring a good dose of tonic water each day.
