I have read a lot of articles online that support the theory that Cinnamon can help lower or maintain a healthier blood sugar metabolism. As part of the steps I have taken after getting a pre diabetic level result I have added it to my diet. I take it it capsules of 500g once or twice a day with meals,, and use the raw form sprinkled into my porridge or on an apple etc.

I haven't had a follow up check yet and dont have a meter but was curious if anyone on here that self tests has noticed any differences when using it,, or over a 2/3 month spell on their hba1c

Suppose wont do any harm and its not expensive but was just curious to get the opinions from here.

I would be more worried about eating porridge and apples without a meter. They can be brutal for your glucose levels.

I like cinnamon on Greek yogurt as it is tasty, but couldn't say if had any positive affect on my hba1c as there are so many other things going on.

I'm sure there's more.
Was buying some the other day and remembered the warning about some of it not being real but being cassia.
The Shwartz one said Cinnamon (cassia)
The Morrisons own label just said cinnamon http://www.healthdiaries.com/eatthis/10-health-benefits-of-cinnamon.htmln ... I felt confused and left it ... turned out we had some at home anyway.

Heres the Shwartz description .... http://www.schwartz.co.uk/products/herbs-and-spices/spices/cinnamon-ground.aspx

And here's the warning saying don't buy cassia ...http://www.healthdiaries.com/eatthis/10-health-benefits-of-cinnamon.html

See why I'm confused?
I would have expected Shwartz to be the genuine article seeing as they charge twice as much.

Updated FAQs, 30 October 2006

Coumarin is a flavouring which is found in higher concentrations in the types of cinnamon grouped together under the name “cassia cinnamon”. Relatively small amounts of coumarin can already damage the liver of particularly sensitive individuals. However, this is not permanent damage. Isolated coumarin may not be added to foods. If coumarin is contained in parts of plants added to flavour foods, then it is limited to two milligrams per kilogram food. Checks by the official food control authorities had shown that this
