claiming

Newbie
I have type 1 and was advised that I am able to claim gas and electricity reductions, either through the suppliers or as an allowance through NHS. I honestly do not know if it is even correct in part, or at all.
Can someone please advise me if it is possible, what to do and where to go in respect of this matter. Thanks in advance.

I've never heard about this and I've been diabetic for 22 years. No idea why as a type 1 you would get help, to be honest. Be interested to know if you can get help, though. Em

No it's not correct. It's known as an old wives tale.
There's the warm home discount scheme http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/f ... /whds.aspx

Mind you I am curious to know why anyone with diabetes should be entitled to a heating allowance.

I can tell you that in England you will get zero reduction on either gas or electricity bills for being inflicted with any type of diabetes. Once you reach retirement age (if its still available) you will get a winter fuel allowance added in one payment to your state pension usually by the December payment as will anyone who has reached official retirement age..

we should get a scarlet lamborghini, free massage, and a lifetime supply of free holidays too I reckon.

Does petrol come with the Lamborghini, if not may I decline the offer as a tad expensive to run?

Who advised you?

Not sure why a type 1 would be entitled to a discount unless they were of a certain age

I've been a type 1 diabetic since 1977 and I've never heard that you can claim anything like that. Believe me think yourself lucky that you can claim free prescriptions. One of our so called governments will try and stop this in the future

May be because its very common that diabetic patients suffer from poor blood circulation, hence would feel (really feel) the cold come Winter, I know I do and have done since my mid 20's.

I'm well aware of what Neuropathy is but does it entitle you to a fuel discount ? There are many other medical conditions where people feel the cold including Anorexia Nervosa, Raynaulds Disease and Hypothyroidism, medication for high blood pressure can also make you feel the cold more.
