Clarithromycin, Levemir and hypos?

If anyone has a question about interactions of drugs with each other or effects of food on drugs, type them in the Interaction Checker on drugs.com.

For Clathromycin and insulin it includes this in the report: Using clarithromycin together with insulin and some other diabetes medications has occasionally resulted in hypoglycemia. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring of your blood sugar if you are receiving treatment for diabetes and are starting clarithromycin. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs.

Clarithromycin has a warning in the packaging, can cause severe hypos (although this is a study done on type two). I took it for a week and didn't give bolus basically at all and ate to my levels as it was far easier than adjusting (for me anyway) and my levels were actually the best they've been for a while! I'm a little paranoid so I always read the leaflets in full which is why I saw this and took the time to figure out best form of attack, but true it's a little concerning that at no point someone mentioned to myself or to you about the potential effects for diabetics
Thanks. Very helpful. I am having the same experience of hypos in the night and having to snack. I was warned by my GP that I could get hypos but he thought as I have Libre Sensor I could manage. But I should have contacted my diabetes team. I was put on Claithromycin because I had terrible stomachache and severe heartburn with Fluucoxacilin. I had an infected wound on my leg so had no option but to take antibiotics. So today I won’t take any long lasting. Thanks again
