Hi.
Please can anyone help.
Or son is recently diagnosed (25-3-16). Due to the severity of his DKA, his kidneys are still not working properly and as yet he remains off school as he is mostly drained and exhausted after 1-2 hours of activity.
Anyway, we are considering school, a few hours a day as of next week - maybe the week after, we need a better renal result and then we can definitely set a date! But already my mind is planning for his return and one thing I keep thinking about is his testing and hand hygiene. I need to make this as practically possible for him as I can whilst having minimal impact on his class, so that his teacher doesn't get ****** with all the distributions him testing himself might cause. (He has a temp teacher and had her for some time). As he was ill prior to his diagnoses and he continually vomited a lot, her solution was to keep him off school for 3 months, I fear this new distribution might tip her over the edge and I'd hate for him to be unwelcome or feel a burden. Anything I can do to help with this I will do. If you have any tips, I welcome them!!
My actual question is: As we use cotton wool and water to clean his fingers before testing at home, I'm concerned he won't do this at school and it will be quite distributive for him to keep getting up and dampening cotton wool to test himself. Do you guys know of any wipes that can be used that won't affect their BM readings? I've seen the Dia-Wipes but they seem expensive for what they are. Is there any normal, easier accessed wipes that we can use and cut up into smaller segments for them to use at school?
Thanks for your help guys...
