I have bought some coconut sugar and love it. You can buy it from Amazon UK it has no carbs and is good for you. You can use it just like ordinary sugar I put it in my tea. It's much better for you than sweetness they upset my stomach and give me a headache.

"According to Fit Click, 1 tsp. of evaporated palm sugar contains 15 calories. The majority is a result of its carbohydrate content, which is primarily composed of sugars. One tsp. of palm sugar contains 3 grams of sugars. Coconut or palm sugar is low on the glycemic index, however. Low-glycemic-index foods are beneficial because they do not cause blood sugar levels to spike rapidly and drop rapidly after consumption. This makes coconut sugar a healthy option for all people who do not suffer from a coconut allergy, but it is particularly beneficial for diabetics."

Perhaps not carb-free, but interesting. Thanks

I looked at the packet again and it's got ....o fat - carbs now what does that mean! I'm confused now is it carb free or not. I'm sure it's better than white sugar though.

Could you provide a link, or tell us which one you bought ? On this forum more info is always better :D

is palm sugar the same as coconut sugar?

Coconut sugar and coconut palm sugar are the same thing. Palm sugar may or may not be the real deal :

"Not all palm sugars are created equal. Coconut Palm Sugar is palm sugar but not all palm sugars are coconut sugars. It is very important to make this distinction as the two are different kind of sugars. More importantly, they do not have the same glycemic index and consequently do not have the same health benefits.
It can be difficult to tell so how can you tell if you are buying "real" coconut sugar? .... check the label make sure that is made from 100% coconut palm or coconut sap!"

I think this is a test it and find out.
I thought it would be like agave syrup and have a low GI because of the fructose (and there are a lot of people who suggest this is not a good thing as fructose is processed by the liver). However, this is apparently not the case. The sugar in it is sucrose. Sucrose normally has a GI of 62, yet this has a GI of 35. I haven't found anything to explain why this is so much lower.
Sounds very good if it works, particularly for cooking.
I'm a bit sceptical at the moment. I would like to see it tested outside the Philippines, where they have a large coconut industry.

I bought it at Amazon uk it's in a gold packet also it's organic I have just ordered another packet a bigger one as it workers out a bit cheaper.

Thi sis really interesting - I've looked at packets of Palm Sugar before and been horrified at the sugar content (no real shocker, though!)

Very interested to hear more about coconut sugar.
