Codefree meter arrived today

It got delivered today, next day delivery service cannot be faulted.

Only had lunch just about an hour ago but could not resist taking it for a test prick

Normally my 2 hour reading is around 6.0-6.6, and with the 1 hour test I am 6.6, so will test again in another hour.

I like the machine, it lets you set audible beeps for reminders for before and 2 hours after meals and warnings for low readings. I don't like the lancet however, it's a 1 shot and you have needle exposed when you get rid of it. I much prefer the cartridge 6 shot fastclix that came with the Aviva and when used no needle to catch yourself on, so will keep using this as they are 200 per box and I have 2 n a bit boxes left, will keep the Codefree lancet for emergencys.

So all in all, I am quite liking it so far..
 
Use the little round bit that you break off the lancet to expose the new needle to pop over the old needle so that it is safe to throw away. Oh and it may be frowned upon but I use each lancet for at least a couple of days.

Yeah that's what I did (I kept the end.). It's ok. Won't tell anyone
 

I keep an old strips pot and put all lancets in there, then when it's full throw it away, all nice and safe. I use a lancet a couple of days as well. I have so many, through not changing each test.
 
My surgery has given me a sharps box for safe disposal. Or you can ask at the pharmacy. Lancets are a Bio-hazard.

Lancets are not a Bio-hazard as far as my local authority is concerned. I was advised to wrap them up safely and just put them in the bin. I decided that wasn't good enough, and all my used lancets go into an empty strip container. I know they are safe then.

I'm not - honestly. But i got such lecture about this from my DSN (just about the only bit of info i got) that I feel I have to pass the info on.

It hadn't occurred to me you were post stalking me, I took it as it is, a discussion/debate that went on over different threads. I'm not paranoid enough to believe in forum stalking.

I phoned my LA when I was diagnosed and asked about sharps, she had no idea what I was supposed to do with them, so put me on hold. When she eventually came back, I was given the advice I posted above. Securely wrap and bin. I am happy to PM you my local authority and you can check the web site, or phone them if you like?
 
I'm interested to hear people use lancets more than once, I've found that if I use the same one even a couple of times my fingers bruise. Is there a trick to stop that happening or am I just too sensitive for my own good? :lol:

Yes please. Improper advice on needle/lancet disposal is serious. These things are dangerous to anyone working in waste-disposal.

Just tested again ok a little over 2 hours more like 3, had a reading of 7.0! It is not usually that high at this time of day, but as I have not had any strips for nearly 2 days I am not sure of levels before and after breakfast and lunch.
 
Sharps container for me is generally an old water bottle - hole big enough, container good enough, has lid...

Agree, as long as there is no way for the sharps to pierce the container they are in, then that's fine. Anyway, I will be interested what my local LA say after Lucy puts a rocket up a certain orifice.

I hate my code free. All results were stupidly high, and my hba1c confirms that as well.
 
Just tested using code free before dinner and 5.9 which is in my normal range for this time of day.
