Hi , I'm new to this and have been doing some research on different things and the coffee question has me confused . I'm a truck driver that works nights and for years have carried a 2 litre flask of strong black filter coffee with me , mainly to help keep me awake lol . My question is , if I carry on drinking as much will it affect my chances of getting my sugar levels down ? I use sweetners not sugar in it.

I don't think it should be a problem. I have 3 to 4 espressos a day with fake sugar and I've managed to manage my levels quite well with diet and exercise. But your mileage may vary.

Hiya and welcome. Short answer: don't know. I hope not cos I drink a fair few mugs of coffee daily. I would have thought keeping your BS levels down depends more on what you eat. For which you need a meter to test yourself. Got one?

diabetic nurse has not provided me with a meter test , she has just taken more bloods. My sugar levels had gone down from 15-11 waiting to hear about my latest blood results.

Thank you for your help will look into it .

I useually have 2 - 3 mugs a day, I add a little milk to a mug then bulk up the volume with a little battery operated frother, less milk, less carbs, more volume.

Add some nice filter coffee to the press and pour, ends up like a lower carb latte.

Love coffee!

I drink loads of coffee (black, no sweetener) and haven't noticed it having any effect on my blood sugar at all

I have recently discovered ive been eating incorrectly as a type 2 diabetic, in the last 3 weeks i have gained better control of my blood sugars, im learning fast but i am unsure of which milk is the best to drink in my coffee full fat or semi skimmed, and would decaffeinated coffee be better for you ?
many thanks jackie

I'm a recent decaffeinated convert.
Some say that caffeine may hamper insulin sensitivity.

Tastes just as good to me. I normally drink coffee black but have one cup a day with full fat milk.

As @Clivethedrive says, cream. Some of us use unsweetened almond milk, or soya milk. Not just in coffee & tea. Matter of taste (and budget) but worth a try.
