Cold weather

Hello,

I was wondering, how does cold weather affect your bloodsugar?

I live in France and until about 2 days ago, it was 30°C outside and the nights were around 15-20°C.
Now since monday the temperature has dropped to like 15 and 5 for the nights and ever since my bloodsugars started to creep up in the night.
First night I went to bed with 5 and woke up with 9 but the second (this morning) I went to bed with 7 and woke up with a BG of 17 and 0,3 ketones.

Now I'm wondering, is this coincidence or could it be the sudden change in temperature?
It starts rising 1 hour after going to bed.

Thankyou.

Hello @Spablauw_ I am very sensitive to changes in the temperature so recently have had to increase my basal with the weather cooling down, I am prepared for it just like I am prepared in spring when it warms up again.

Oké, and how much did you increase it because with my BG of 17 I think I have to more than double my basal during the night?

I don't know if that are normal adjustments to make?

I'd say NOT to double your basal! When I adjust mine it's never more than 2u at a time and I'd wait a few days before adjusting again.

As @kev-w says, do it in stages. How big is your current basal. If it's very large you can try bigger steps, but be careful to check it frequently, perhaps set an alarm or 2 overnight.
If you have a CGM then the alarms mean you can be a little more aggressive with your adjustments
