College abroad

Hi I'm type one, just wondering has anyone gone to college abroad or in the same county but hours away?
 
My son spend his 2nd year at university in America, he loved it. He is flat sharing in Hamburg with a student from Uzbekistan.
If you have the chance I would take it
 
I grew up in essex, but did my degree in Bath (Around 180 miles away). Is your question related to managing your diabetes away from your family? If so, there are precautions you can take. These include extra testing, particularly before going to bed, and making sure that whoever lives with you is clued up about your diabetes.
 
I grew up in Suffolk and went to university in London (100 miles away). I was diagnosed about 6 months before going so it was a big transition taking care of myself and I made a few mistakes, DKAs and hospitalisations.

I recommend finding and registering with the local diabetic clinic for your college/area or equivalent if overseas. They are often really knowledgeable and will usually have a 24 hour emergency line if you get into trouble.
 
If you go abroad you must check what the Health Care system is like for diabetics. I have lived in New Zealand and luckily they had a similar type of system to the UK. However when I first got there you had to register for funding for insulin etc and this was delayed in my case and I had to buy insulin which cost me (if I remember correctly) about £60 for a 1 cartridge of insulin. This could get very expensive very quickly.
