Hi all

I started LCHF a month ago and have managed to go from 320mg of glyclazide a day to 0 daily while keeping a close eye on my BG levels as well as dropping 5kg..
Now I would like to start inroads into the metformin that I take 2x1000g daily, can anyone suggest where to start with the metformin?

My not very expert view would be just to keep doing what you're doing, and see what happens after a while. Metformin is known to help with insulin resistance, and to suppress the appetite a bit, but it doesnt stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin like gliclazide does so well done on getting off the gliclazide.

I'm not a fan of medication per se, so I'm happiest, for me, not taking anything, but Metformin is a very safe drug, which some studies are showing to have benefits more far reaching that just basic diabetes, so it may be something you might want to continue with for a while at least. Others may want to comment further on the additional benefits of Metformin, as I'm a bit sketchy there.

I agree with the above, ask your GP or dsn, next time if you can reduce the metformin, but I wouldn't recommend coming off it altogether. It does have long term benefits.

Forgot to add,

Well done on your success, keep it up!
