Why don't the professionals learn and listen, I saw a new DN yesterday she was very thorough and very pleasant, but unlike a previous DN who gave me a blood testing monitor and told me to use it regularly so I could monitor which foods raised my blood glucose so I could avoid them.....yesterday I was advised not to test, I explained that I'm not obsessively testing and it has helped me with carb control, she then told me I should eat porridge for breakfast or wholemeal toast, both of which sends my sugar sky high, I ended up agreeing with her rather than argue

Hi ChefDee

I am recently Diagnosed and still learning the ropes and ups and downs of being type2. I have begun to realise after reading forums, learning from experiance and what our DN's tell is a ballancing act, were all individuals and what works for one wont work for another, I beleive that allot of Dr's and DN's read from a script if you like, there the guide lines they have been shown taught given and thats what they regurgitate to use with out listening to use and what works for that individual.

Like I say I am recently diagnosed and wont see my Nurse to January 2017 but I am expecting some very interesting conversations ............ I would stick with what you know and what works for you.

Unfortunately, NHS promotes the eat well plate, that has average carb amount. The eat well plate is for any health condition it is not tailored to one group like diabetics. Meters, lancets and strip cost money and NHS is not prepared to give them out against their own advice.
A lot of type 2 have found knowing what spikes their BG and following a lower carb diet is of benefit, hopefully in time NHS will see that type 2s have a need to test and there needs to be more than one eat well plate.
I always say before there was insulin the only treatment for type 1s was a low carb diet, so there must be something right with it
