Confused about what I can now eat

Hi. As others have said, use of the meter will guide you on what foods affect you most. The degree of diabetes we all have varies greatly so the amount of carbs you can have will vary. As we are all glucose intolerant, we need to control the carbs we have as they are converted to glucose in the body. The advice from the NHS, slimming clubs and other government bodies is based on badly analysed data from very restricted food trials in the 60s/70s resulting in the 'have low-fat' mantra and carbs were seen as the solution. There are now many, including the professional health field, that have looked at the data and realised it was not valid. That's why the majority view on this forum is to keep the carbs down (your meter will prove that to you) and have enough proteins and fats. Your cholesterol total may not change by much but the HDL/LDL ratio will and that has a positive effect on heart risk. Carbs are probably the main source of weight gain rather than fats hence the obesity crisis.
