Hello everyone how are you

Newly diagnosed and absolutely clueless at how to beat this.
Not keen on very low carb diet as I know myself I'll fall off the wagon
Im 33, single mum to a little boy.
After my grandfather and mum passing away and a disgusting divorce losing all my money I've turned to food for comfort and this has ultimately been my downfall.

Can anyone advice me on how to beat this? Is diet key or do I have to include exercise too?
My mum and grandfather had diabetes which fed their cancer...I don't want to go the same way I want to beat this.
I'm currently overweight as I'm very short at 4ft 10 and I'm 65kg.

Was given Metformin but I felt horrendously sick and going bathroom a lot due to not suiting it. Now on slow release for a month and better but I forget to take sometimes.
Blood tests fasting in mornings are under 5.0 mmol.
Been told my cholesterol is 5.1 so just above the limit. I'm sure this is due to being diagnosed with diabetes too.

Any help as I'm quite overwhelmed and a little scared here

The best way to help is a LCHF diet, and honestly it's the easiest diet to stick too.

My meals today were breakfast scrambled egg, butter, cheese and ham. lunch was chicken and ham pasty [made with fat head dough] a fibre bun [small cake] with a cheesecake fat bomb and dinner salmon, with watercress, asparagus home-made tzatziki [greek yoghurt, cucumber, garlic and lemon juice] and hollandaise sauce. This has added up to 8.64 g of carbs.

I've lost 21lb now and my average daily BG dropped from 11-12 to 6-7 [I'd love a morning BG under 5 well done] I'm taking one Metformin tablet [hope to stop that soon] but I should be taking 4

I've been watching these videos by DrKenDBerry he has lots of tips on how to do this diet.

Hello and welcome to the forum. The lower carb diets may surprise you in that when you understand the science behind them then it all makes sense. 'Confused and scared' are descriptions that we read over and over but in a few short weeks with dietary changes you can improve your well being and your prospects for the future. You have been under some stress, stress alone can raise blood glucose.
As to excercise, that is a very personal choice. Someone once said 'You can't outrun a bad diet' and a lot of members find that just walking helps, whether you choose to do more is up to you.
Have a wander around the forum and ask as many questions as you like. Good luck.

Reading your post; especially with your family issues I’m guessing you don’t really have anyone at hand to share your concerns with. There’s usually a support group for diabetes patients in the local area which your gp (or even a gp receptionist!) should have an address for.
