I took my blood after my meal (two hours) and it is 6.1

But this is what it says on here about the reading and I'm confused .

Your blood sugar is normal.
A reading of 6.1mmol/L after a meal is classed as hypoglycemia for someone with Type 2 diabetes (based on NICE recommendations).

hypoglycemia means low blood sugar doesn't it ?

That's because if you have eaten the NICE approved high carb meal your bloods should be up in the teens...
Can you link to where you saw that particular hogwash please?

On here .

Hypoglycemia, also known as low blood sugar, is when blood sugar decreases to below normal levels. This may result in a variety of symptoms including clumsiness, trouble talking, confusion, loss of consciousness, seizures or death. A feeling of hunger, sweating, shakiness and weakness may also be present.

A reading of 6.1 is not hypoglycaemic. Possible misprint perhaps?

This is what I got after entering your details

A reading of 6.1mmol/L is in the normal range for someone with Type 2 diabetes before a meal (based on NICE recommendations).
thanks for that, i copied the result so wonder why mine said otherwise ?

Just used it again

You have checked the wrong box if the test was 2 hours or more after last eating. Your 6.1 at the 2 hour mark is normal and very good.

In any event, the information is rubbish and incorrect. Hypoglycaemia is, as you say, low blood sugar. 6.1 is not low whether before or after eating. Under 4 is low. Lord knows why it is on this website.

NICE seem to think that it is unsafe to run at a "normal" blood sugar level in case you have a hypo. They talk about an HbA1c target of 48 for Type 2. They must assume that Type 2's are all on drugs because they have not heard of lowering BG with diet.

Thinking about it a bit more, there is also the stupidity of a yes/no answer to the question "have you eaten within the last 2 hours?" There is a lot of difference between having eaten apple pie and custard an hour ago and having eaten a boiled egg nearly 2 hrs ago, both of which give a yes answer.
