Hi Folks ,
My first post as I am a bit confused I had been advised over the last five years by my Doctor in the UK that I was sailing close to the wind with fasting readings between 6.8 (122.4)and 7.1 (127.8) and was asked to try a Mediterranean diet, this was a bit of a no brainer because my eating habits were predominantly very similar to this diet. However I am a couple of stone overweight cannot resist boiled sweets, and enjoyed a few beers once or twice a week. I am 74 if that is pertinent.
I have recently re-located to Cyprus (Med Diet) and registering with a GP out here I had the same checks as the UK and the readings were 8.28 (149) he recommended I get a glucose meter and do checks every morning and 2 hours after the main meal in the evening (17.30pm).
Being a good boy I have done this for the last month and here comes the rub, with only one exception (122) all my readings have ranged between 79 and 109 in the morning and in the evening again one exception (134) (not the same day as above) the range has been between 90 and 120 after the main meal. I have seen no comments regarding the fact as to whether you obviously can get kicks in the readings dependent on the meals and how important this is if there is an obvious recovery in the next reading. I have to go back to the Doctor next week to go over this but for the life of me I cannot see where the test of 149 came from although I should say boiled sweets have been binned, beers halved and half a level teaspoon of sugar in a mug of tea as against one heaped. Also lost about 3 pounds.
I would be interested if anyone has a similar experience or am I talking rubbish, I will not be offended if the truth is told as I am not one of the politically correct brigade.
Regards
Mick

It could just be a rogue reading!

There are many reasons for this.

If in future you notice a reading too high or too low, wash your hands and retest!

Best wishes

Hi Lamont D,

Appreciate your comments, I am aware of your points made and perhaps I should have been more careful of the phrasing of my question.
The point I was trying to make is that surely that after perhaps an indulgence odd high reading is quite possible but can this be considered not important in the scheme of things if the next reading shows a recovery and subsequently back to stable readings.

One of those things that many T2s can do, is have a treat now and then. And of course you should ignore any reading, as it is an anomaly.
However, this is how we find out which foods are not good for you and your blood glucose levels.

But too many treats can be a retrospective step!

Mick - hello, and welcome.

Firstly, can I ask if the test your Doc did were taken after you had fasted overnight?

The reason I ask that is our bodies, quite naturally, give us a bit of a sugar boost (from stored reserves inour liver) around the time we rise in the morning. For some the boost is greater than others, and depending upon when they then go on to eat, the rise that sugar generates in the blood stream can be negligible or sometimes more noticeable.

So, it could be, if you had fasted overnight, then got up, and got moving without eating, your liver pushed out a bit more sugar, to "keep you going" utnil you next ate. If you're not following that exact routine (getting up and about without eat, drinking or a cup of tea), that could explain it.

If you wawnt to read aabout that phenomenon, then you could ask Dr Google about "dawn phenomenon".

For some people, their blood numbers are just a bit higher in the morning than the rest of the day.
