It may be that before the 4 stone loss your hubby had some insulin resistance (T2'ish) and that with the weight loss his blood sugar has gone down and the need for meds has reduced. Yes, be guided by the nurse and see how it goes. I wouldn't increase the carbs too much but increase the protein and fats if needed. The body doesn't really need many, if any, carbs and too many can cause insulin resistance so just set a sensible daily limit of perhaps 200gm max and possibly less. Insulin can always be adjusted to match the carbs in line with the right blood sugar but too much can cause excessive weight gain
