Confused, just diagnosed I think

Hi and welcome,
www.fatsecret.com is a free website where you can log what you eat and how much excercise you take, I find it useful to keep a check on things on a daily basis. Keeps me focused. Good luck

Thanks, good to hear that it can be controlled by diet alone, but I suppose I'll have to see how it goes. Confused about diet however, I see the logic of really cutting back on carbs and have already done this, but I don't want to eat fat as I have a lot of weight to lose, so at moment having fat free yogurt with some berries and nuts for breakfast, cheese sandwich on brown bread for lunch, and a meal in the evening mainly based around vegetables or salad.
Don't see bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. See them as piles of sugar. Same with cereal. As soon as they get into your stomach, they are turned into sugar and released into your blood, raising your sugar levels which as a diabetic are too high. Lots of things contain carbs - veg, cream etc. that's why your body doesn't need starchy carbs. The fat is your alternative energy source. Fat does not make you fat. This is going to take a while to get your head around as we are lectured on eating high fat food. High fat, high carb food is bad but food which is just high fat is not. But the right kinds of fat: nuts, cheese, cream, avocado, olive oil, butter, full fat yoghurt (plain - the fruit has at least 10% sugar) . The whole thing is counterintuitive. Have a look at www.dietdoctor.com
I have lost 4 stone in 11 months. 2 stone to go. Sample meals:
Bacon and eggs or scrambled egg made with double cream and including bacon pieces for brekkie.
Snacks: nuts, cheese
Lunch: left overs
Dinner: homemade chilli (no rice) soured cream and cheese
Make everything yourself so you know that there is no sugar.
Get a meter. Preferably from the doc but if you have to buy then an SD codefree as the strips are 5-6 pounds a pot. Others are 25 pounds a pot.
Good luck!
